Middle East College boosts Oman’s job market with 403 skilled graduates

Middle East College (MEC) held the eighth graduation ceremony on 14th April 2014 at Al Bustan Palace Hotel, Muscat. In all, 403 students graduated across disciplines e
arning diplomas, bachelor and postgraduate degrees. Dr. David Pillsbury, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Coventry University, UK, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Chairman of Middle East College Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Saif Al Sabahi, Dr R C Bhattacharjee, Dean, dignitaries from various Ministries, eminent academics and other distinguished guests attended the event.
The function was held in two sessions: in the first session, 204 UG diplomas were conferred in the presence of Dr Abdullah al Sabahi, while 138 UG bachelor and 61 PG degrees were awarded in the second session in the presence of Dr David Pilsbury. The graduates are majored in Engineering, Information Technology, Management and Fashion Design Disciplines.
Recitation of Holy Quran, student processions and felicitations to the graduates preceded the conferment of degrees and diplomas. A few of the graduates addressed the gathering, followed by the Best Outgoing Student awards that were conferred on Fatma Hassan Habib al Lawati and Asif Tahir Muhammad.
In his speech, College Dean Dr RC Bhattacharjee outlined the spectacular growth trajectory of Middle East College, from its humble beginnings in 2002 with just 160 students to a leading centre of academic excellence where 4800 students currently pursue higher education in various subjects.
“We are today the largest higher education college in Oman offering 12 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate programs in engineering, technology and management in academic partnership with Coventry University, UK. Last year the college introduced an innovative programme in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management and this year, we plan to introduce more such interesting programmes” he said.
Congratulating the fresh graduates, Dr Pillsbury said: “The certificates you received provides you with hope and strength to meet future challenges in your careers and other aspects of your lives.”
