Dr Kiran G.R., Dean of Middle East College (MEC) and Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, Dean of Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the CCE campus on 17th September 2017, witnessed by key staff members of both institutions. The MoU will facilitate the two institutions with the benchmarking of their educational activities as benchmarking is considered a useful tool for enhancing the quality of education and services among higher education institutions. The MoU, which is signed for 2 years but is likely to be extended further, aims to stimulate a comprehensive benchmarking activity in both academic and administrative areas between the two institutions. The main purpose of this activity is to share good practices and improve the quality and standards of education, research projects, and other academic activities.
Regarding the significance of this new step to achieve a better quality for both institutions, Dr Kiran commented that benchmarking is important not only for the two institutions but also for the higher education sector in Oman. Sharing good practices among HEIs in Oman with the aim of quality enhancement is a positive step towards enhancing students’ learning experience. The academic collaboration between MEC and CCE would set an example for other HEIs in Oman.
It is worth mentioning that MEC always seeks to develop a quality driven culture in the academic and administrative activities to provide a better experience for its students and staff. In addition, the college has also signed MoUs with other institutions to benchmark its activities and enhance their efficiency to enrich the students’ educational journey and develop the higher education sector in the Sultanate.
