Welcome to Department of Civil Engineering.

Civil Engineering is the oldest of the engineering disciplines that deals with the design, construction and improvement of the built environment in a professionally responsible and ethical manner. The Civil Engineering Department started operations from Fall 2012 by offering B.Eng (Hons) in Civil Engineering. It introduced another programme from Fall 2013 in B.Sc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Construction Management.

The Department of Civil Engineering prepares specialists engineers, leaders, entrepreneurs and researchers to take leadership roles in the fields of civil, quantity surveying, environmental, building services, and related engineering professions with skills to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to the related engineering challenges.

The programmes in the department are offered through a variety of coursework which provides a solid foundation and technical expertise in the engineering sciences and management skills. The coursework needing to analyze, plan, design, construct and maintain facilities such as buildings, bridges, dams, geotechnical, structural, land surveying, transportation, water resources as well as technologies, facilities and methods related to quantity surveying, building services and environmental engineering.
Through these programmes, the students gain a comprehensive civil and related engineering knowledge through theory, practical work and real-life projects which enable them to contribute to the growth of Oman.

The Department of Civil Engineering at Middle East College offers the following programmes:
BEng (Hons) - Civil Engineering
BSc (Hons) - Quantity Surveying and Construction Management
The department is always committed to provide a platform to students for technically and socially relevant activities, the department has “Environmental Club” and “Civil Engg Club” which carry out extra-curricular activities throughout the year in coordination with the Students Experience Office of the college.
The department has a dedicated team of faculty and staff who are technically competent and experienced to help the students meet the challenges of the ever demanding programme. The department has excellent lab facilities in:
  • Engineering Surveying
  • Building Materials
  • Geology
  • Structural Mechanics
  • Hydraulics
  • CAD (equipped with software like AutoCAD, REVIT, STAAD PRO having libraries for Structural Mechanics/Structural Design/Soil Mechanics/Geotechnology/Railway Engineering/Env Engg, etc) • Geology
  • Geotechnology
  • Internal Environment

These laboratories provide the students with opportunities for activity-based / problem based learning and motivate students to link their theoretical knowledge, assisted by real time projects, to practical issues of the field.

  • Well established laboratories suitable for research and consultancy activities.
  • Very active research environment with regular and excellent research publications in journals and international conferences by staff
  • Student project under FURUP scheme of TRC.
  • Students also active in research as manifested by their papers in International conferences
  • Industrial visits, to enhance the learning experience. Total 08 visits were arranged involving 04 modules in each semester.
  • Society oriented live diploma projects related to society carried out by students, including on aspects like sustainability
  • Student members in professional societies such as ICE
The department has plans to start more UG programmes in civil engineering allied fields.
The department also plans to set up a devoted team to work on the latest research in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, Environmental Engineering & Management, and Building Services Engineering. To achieve this objective, modern laboratory facilities, supported by a strong team of faculty members and admin staff, are in place to align with the mission and vision of the college. The department is also planning to strengthen links with industry to enable students to complete their internships at reputed organisations.
