This programme aims to develop your awareness regarding local and international practices in the Civil Engineering profession, and adapt them in the context of the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. Each module has been carefully designed to give you the necessary skills to analyse, design and manage solutions for innovative and complex engineering problems, as a basis for future leadership in the Civil Engineering profession.
Candidates seeking admission to the programme mentioned should possess a General Education Diploma (Equivalent to 12 years of schooling or equivalent qualification approved by the Ministry of Education, Oman) in the Science stream with at least 65 % mark in both Pure Math and Physics. Further, the student should complete the General Foundation Programme (GFP) or its equivalent.
Students who do not possess a GFP certificate or an equivalent certificate may take MEC placement test. The placement test determines proficiency levels in English, Pure Math and Computing component.
English Language in the GFP can be exempted on producing IELTS (International English Language Testing System) certificate with a score of 5.5 and above, a TOEFL equivalent or an equivalent international certification
Computing component of the GFP can be exempted if the candidate has successfully completed the ICDL or IC3 or any equivalent international diploma in IT skills.
A score of 60% and above in MEC placement test in each of the component would enable the student for exemption from General Foundation programme.
You will be able to choose careers in all areas of the construction industry including Surveying, Structural Design, Railway Engineering, Highway and Traffic Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering and Projects Management. As graduates of this programme, you could apply for jobs which require analysis and designing skills and will be able to use different software related to project management and calculating costs, structures design and analysis by using standard procedures as well as finding innovative solutions for complex Civil Engineering problems.
